Lighting the Path of our Communities (Sustainability) 2018

As many other rural areas in Puerto Rico after hurricane María passed, the community of Lorenzo del Valle, in San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico doesn’t have electricity it’s been already 6 months.

This beautiful community in the mountains we in Mujer Montuna call home, was highly impacted by the center of the Hurricane and has been completely disconnected of the basic living resources still after 6 months of the hurricane. This is also a highly dependent agricultural community that lost most their crops and many lost their houses, but it is also a very resilient and well organized community very well known for the community engagement with projects like recycling, nature preservation, theater cultural activities, community meals, self sustained agricultural markets, women’s health workshops and care of the elders not only in their “barrio” but the adjacent ones as well. No surprises then that after the hurricane, our neighbors, families, community leaders and members got together to find a solution; and they found one in their own hands: Help restore and clean the electricity system on the main roads in order to facilitate the installation of electricity by the authority. In only few weeks of continuous work, they have already restore electricity to more than a 1/4 of the community. We feel there is so much love to give them back from all the love and compassion they have been giving other people trough these post María days... and for years.

This place is HOME, so we ask you to support us! With your money this community can continue renting the heavy equipment they are using and its gas, buy more equipment to clean the roads, and provide water and meals for the volunteer workers and adjacent communities. You can contribute with money to PayPal (jcruz.tsalud@gmail.com)or Venmo (Jackie-Cruz-Rodz) and Mujer Montuna will be transferring the money weekly to the Community Board supporting this project. We will be posting reports screenshots in our PR album at our Facebook Page Mujer Montuna, and we will be getting more pictures of the progress here. Don’t hesitate to ask us more questions, call or write us at the information provided at both our pages. We appreciate you so much!
